With food prices in British Columbia on the rise, NDP MP Blaney calls out Liberals for voting no to lower grocery prices
CAMPBELL RIVER – This week, Canada’s NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh successfully passed a bill to lower food costs for Canadians, despite the out-of-touch Liberals’ best efforts to stop it from happening.
The NDP’s bill comes as people in North Island – Powell River have seen the worst year in decades for increases to food prices – and are expected to see food costs go up by $700 for a family of four.

Rachel Blaney Urges Government to Reclassify Persian Gulf War Veterans as Wartime Service Veterans
Powell River, BC — Rachel Blaney (NDP MP for North Island – Powell River) has written to the Hon. Ginette Petitpas Taylor urging the Minister of Veterans Affairs to designate Canadians who served in the Persian Gulf War of 1990-1991 as Wartime Service Veterans. Powell River – NDP MP Rachel Blaney (North Island – Powell River) says she was proud and happy to vote in favour of the new Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement last week. While the NDP and many other Members of Parliament voted in favour of the new agreement, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre and the entire Conservative Party either voted against the agreement or chose not to vote.

OTTAWA - Last week, New Democrats passed a motion to force Canada’s biggest grocery CEOs to come back to Ottawa and testify on sky-high food prices. This comes after the Liberal Industry Minister’s abysmal failure to bring down food prices for Canadians. The Liberals’ out-of-touch approach to politely ask grocery CEOs to ‘stabilize’ prices that are already sky-high isn’t working — and Canadians need real action and accountability.
