After attending the Legion Conference in Saint John, NDP calls on Liberals to stop disappointing Veterans

SAINT JOHN - This week, NDP Veterans Affairs critic Rachel Blaney attended the Legion Conference in Saint John— to thank Veterans and to call on the federal government to do better by Canada’s heroes. Blaney and the NDP’s candidate for Saint John - Kennebecasis, Don Paulin also met with Veterans following the conference.

In line with this year’s theme, Building our Future on a Foundation of Strength, Blaney and Paulin are calling on the Liberal government to stop disappointing Canadian Veterans with poor services and treatment and start doing the work needed to give Veterans dignity.

“For years, the Liberals have ignored the pleas of Veterans who are simply asking to receive basic benefits they deserve for serving our country and risking their lives,” said Blaney. “The federal government continues to make it difficult for Veterans to receive and access supports. The Liberals refuse to take the necessary steps to replace the overly bureaucratic system that punishes Veterans and their families, with the trauma-informed care service centre that Veterans need.”

It’s clear that the Liberals have let Veterans down, just like the Conservatives before them who kept cutting resources. Our Veterans deserve better than what Liberals and Conservatives have given them.”

Blaney, along with the NDP, has fought to remove the discriminatory marriage after 60 clause, started Canada’s first-ever study into the experiences of women Veterans, and has fought the government on their decision to outsource veterans services.
