People living on our coasts and the surrounding marine ecosystems have been devastated by container spills. Last year, coastal communities in BC watched as hazardous materials and debris washed up on their shores because of the Zim Kingston container spill. The governmment response was abysmal, uncoordinated, and came after much delay.
As extreme weather events continue to increase and more and more containers are lost at sea, it is imperative that the Liberals ensure a timely, integrative response led by local knowledge as well as a clear plan to prevent these spills from occurring in the first place.
